There are many good (and bad) foods that can help you increase your body weight. It’s not all about burgers and fries nor chocolates and icecream. To gain weight in a healthy manner do not just consider foods that are high in calories. Where possible, portions of food should be larger to get the ultimate weight gain benefit but be careful not to over do it with the wrong types of food.
Here is a list of 5 foods and drinks that if consumed regularly can contribute to healthy weight gain:
1) Avocados
Believe it or not these things are lierally ‘nuts’. They are high in calories and unsaturated fat and they are a suitable ingredient to be added to sandwiches or salad. As a guide they contain about 200+ calories.
2) Olive Oil
A monounsaturated fat that will add plenty of calories to your diet and help keep your cardiovascular system healthy. It can be used to fry up pretty much anything as well as drizzle on vegetables and meats.
3) Nuts
Nuts have plenty of calories and are a good source of unsaturated fat. They can be used in your cooking or eaten as a snack between meals.
4) Beans
Beans are protein rick and provide lots of carbs. These little bundles of weight gain can be added to all sorts of cooking – my favourite bean filled dishes are bolognese and nachos.
5) Lowfat Milk
The low fat variety contains just as much carbs and protein as normal milk however has the added bonus of less saturated fat. This can be enjoyed by itself, with cereal or in your favourite smoothies.
Above are just five options to get you started on your weight gain quest. Check out ‘The Secrets of Healthy Weight Gain’ for more foods and meal ideas to gain weight and move towards that ideal body shape.
