Genetics and Weight Gain
Your genetics play a big role in how much weight you can gain. If you have parents that are reasonably muscular or heavy, then chances are you will find it easier to gain weight. If you have very slight or thin parents then you may find it harder to gain weight.
So it isn’t difficult to look up the family tree a little and see shy you have the body shape you have today. This may mean that you will find it harder to put on weight but it doesn’t mean that it is not possible. Don’t give up. Maybe you can start the next generation of larger framed members of your family!
Gender and Weight Gain
Your gender may also play a role in your weight gain. Males tend to find it easier to put on muscle mass as they have more testosterone than females. Testosterone is a hormone that plays a major role in building muscle. The difference in hormones also plays a role in where fat will be deposited if body fat stores increase. Males are more likely to store their extra fat on their stomach area, whereas females are more likely to store extra fat on their hips and thighs.
As you can see there are definitely some fundamental differences between the sexes. This will mean that exercise regimes will need to be tailored to suit. For more information on how to achieve this please check out ‘The Secrets of Healthy Weight Gain’.
