Eat More To Gain Weight

Being underweight is caused by energy intake being less than the energy used. In other words, you need to eat more in order to gain weight.

Suggestions for gaining weight are therefore:

Kilojoule Counter Book
Use a kilojoule-counter book to calculate how many kilojoules you are eating on any given day. The amount may be smaller than you would think. Based on this figure you can adjust the number of kilojoules you are taking in so that you are better prepared for the kilojoule ‘burn’ in the day ahead.

Three Good Meals a Day
Eat three good meals each and every day. Give yourself slightly larger serves if you can manage it. This is the building blocks for your weight gain regime. Make sure the food is healthy and appropriate for weight gain.

Three Snacks a Day
Eat three snacks each and every day. The first at morning tea, the second at afternoon tea and the third at supper time. A healthy snack may include fruits, yoghurt, muffins, rice pudding, low fat custard, milkshakes or liquid meal supplements. Be creative and remember to take the time to enjoy your food.

Carbohydrates
Successful weight gain requires that you increase your daily intake of carbs. Obviously, avoid any low carbohydrate diets. Try eating sandwiches for lunch and pasta at night for example.

Avoid Junk
Avoid high fat junk foods. I know people say that junk food makes you fat and being skinny this doesn’t sound too bad to you but there are better ways. Choose nutritious high fat foods such as avocado or nuts. Junk food may put on some fat temporarily but will lead to other health related problems.
